Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Inkspine handles information when you use the mobile and desktop apps published by Inkspine Writing Tools.

Effective date: July 30, 2026 Last updated: July 30, 2026

In short: Private projects stay on your device. A Google account is optional. Cloud services are used only when you sign in or explicitly share a project. We do not show ads and do not use analytics or tracking SDKs in the current app.

1. Who we are

Inkspine is provided by Inkspine Writing Tools (“we”, “us”, “our”). For privacy questions or data requests, contact:

2. What Inkspine is

Inkspine is a writing workspace for novels, serialised fiction, comics, manga, webtoons and scripts. You can create and keep projects entirely on your device. Collaboration features become available after you sign in and choose to share a project with invited people.

3. Information we process

3.1 On your device (local-first)

Manuscripts, story-bible records, chapter snapshots, settings, images you attach to private projects, and related app data are stored locally on your device (including in a local database such as SQLite). This data remains on the device unless you export it, back it up yourself, or enable sharing for that project.

3.2 Account information (optional)

If you sign in with Google, we process account identifiers needed for authentication and collaboration identity, which may include:

Signing in is not required to use private, on-device projects.

3.3 Shared / collaborative project data

When you explicitly share a project or use live co-writing, the following may be transmitted to our cloud infrastructure (currently powered by Google Firebase services) so invited collaborators can work together:

Invited collaborators can see identity and project content you make available to them through sharing. Do not invite people you do not trust with that material.

3.4 What we do not collect

In the current app, we do not use:

4. How we use information

We use processed information only to:

We do not use your writing content to train generative AI models, and Inkspine does not include generative writing features.

5. Legal bases (where applicable)

Depending on your region, we rely on one or more of: performing a contract (providing the app you requested), your consent (for example optional sign-in or sharing), and legitimate interests in securing and operating collaboration infrastructure. You may withdraw consent where processing is consent-based by signing out, turning off sharing, or requesting deletion.

6. Sharing and processors

We do not sell personal information. We use service providers that process data on our behalf to run authentication and collaboration features, notably Google Firebase (including Authentication, Firestore or Realtime Database, and Cloud Storage as configured in the app). Those providers process data under their terms and security controls.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer, with appropriate safeguards.

7. Data retention

8. Security

Collaboration data is transmitted using encrypted connections provided by our cloud provider (HTTPS/TLS). Private local projects are not uploaded unless you enable sharing. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure; please use device passcodes and account security best practices.

9. Children

Inkspine is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through a signed-in account, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. Your rights & choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to, or delete personal data we hold about you. You can:

11. Account & data deletion

To request deletion of your Inkspine account and associated cloud data, email us from the address linked to your account. Full instructions are on our Account deletion page.

We aim to complete verified deletion requests within 30 days (sooner when practicable). Some residual backups or logs may expire on a short rolling schedule after deletion.

12. International transfers

If you use sign-in or collaboration, data may be processed in countries where Google/Firebase operates, which may differ from your home country. Those transfers are protected by the provider’s applicable safeguards.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product or legal changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy where permitted by law.
